Museo Del Juguete Antiguo — The Museum of Antique Toys of Mexico
THE MUSEUM OF ANTIQUE TOYS OF MEXICO (MUJAM) is a wildly independent, DIY, earthshakingly original place, run by a radical father-and-son team, both of whom trained as architects in Japan and Mexico.
The toys and objects displayed there are just a part of Señor Roberto Shimizu’s collection that numbers over one million, amassed over seven decades. Located in a former department store, this is not a white-walled, carefully curated museum. It’s a joyful explosion. MUJAM also includes a community center serving the poor Mexico City neighborhood of Doctores.
Shimizu's son Roberto curates the work of local and international street artists, seen on every available space inside and outside the Museum.
FIVE YEARS have transpired since the beginning of the compilation of the book Museo de Juguetes Antiguos de México. It has been a labor of love by many folks who donated their precious time and energy to the project.
THERE IS NOTHING LIKE THIS PLACE ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD. (This is not hyperbole.) Go there if you possibly can. If you can’t just yet, you’re invited to wander through the Museum and its neighborhood with us in this book.

¿QUÉ ES MUJAM? Es un lugar de bricolaje tremendamente independiente, increíblemente original, dirigido por un equipo radical de padre e hijo, quienes se formaron como arquitectos en Japón y México. Los objetos que se muestran allí son solo una parte de la colección del señor Roberto Shimizu, que cuenta con más de un millón de juguetes y objetos, acumulados durante siete décadas. Ubicado en una antigua tienda departamental. Este no es un museo de paredes blancas con exhibiciones cuidadosamente seleccionadas. Esta es una explosión de alegría!
